At POOPS WA (Pets of Older Persons WA), we believe that pets are family and no one should have to give them up because they’re unable to walk them or get them to the vet or groomer.
Our volunteers are the heart of what we do, supporting older pet owners, and those in palliative care across Perth & Busselton to stay connected with their beloved animals. While most of our volunteers are out pounding the pavement with pups, we also rely on people with professional skills to help behind the scenes.
If you’re passionate about pets and community, and you want to make a meaningful difference, we’d love to hear from you.
We currently have the following positions vacant.

POOPS (Pets of Older Persons WA Inc) is looking for an Area Coordinator for the Busselton area. The role involves meeting new volunteers and promoting clients’ dogs (cats require transportation only) to our volunteers with information to ensure a good fit for both the volunteers and clients.
Our core focus is to provide a free dog walking service and provide free transportation for pets as required by our clients. Our clients are those over 60 years of age or palliative-care patients of any age that are unable to walk their dogs themselves and don’t have the financial resources or family/friends to assist them.
You can choose to meet with new volunteers face-to-face on a regular basis or conduct online inductions. This depends on your location. We have found that online inductions have worked well and have Coordinators who live outside of the POOPS area who are able to manage the role remotely if face-to-face inductions are not an option.
POOPS is a not-for-profit run entirely by volunteers and this role is an unpaid volunteer position. We are unable to supply IT equipment within our budget.
Tasks of the Position
• Record keeping
• Updating Airtable database
• Welcome and induct new volunteers
• Read and upload Welcome Officer report and pictures of new clients’ dog/s
• Match volunteers to clients
• Maintain contact with volunteers and clients
• Attend Coordinator’s Meetings & AGM
• Follow POOPS guidelines and core objectives as decided by the committee
• Follow all manuals and procedures to ensure consistency across all areas of Operations
• Liaise and communicate with the wider POOPS position holders
Equipment – You will need a working laptop or PC, and a mobile phone for this role. Please do not apply if you do not have these items. Allow 4 – 15 hrs a week, depending on demand.
Good computer skills – We use POOPS Gmail for emails, Airtable for our database, Google Meet for online inductions and Mailchimp for sending out regular Pupdates (advertising dogs in need of walkers) and other emails as required to the volunteers in your Area. Training and support will be provided but computer literacy and a willingness to learn new programmes is a must in this position. Your holidays from POOPS will be covered by the Operations Manager. Full training is provided.
Communication and admin skills – You will enjoy talking to people from varied backgrounds and your attention to detail and administration skills will be put to good use.
Patience and empathy are a must as you will be dealing with a cohort of older people who adore their furry family members. This role does not involve contact with pets, but you are welcome to walk a dog if you have time.
