POOPS is a not-for-profit run entirely by volunteers. Our volunteers help pet owners who, due to financial disadvantage, age, medical emergency and/or disability, need assistance with caring for their beloved pets. Typically, our clients are those over 65 years of age, palliative-care patients of any age and people with disabilities.
Our volunteers are, of course, animal lovers who provide a range of fee-free pet services including dog walking, transportation (to vets, boarding facilities or groomers), administering medication, or whatever is needed for the pet and is mutually agreed between the volunteer and pet owner.
When POOPS started in 2010, it did so with a handful of volunteers and clients in a few suburbs in Perth. Today we have hundreds of volunteers and clients spread all over Perth and beyond. From Yanchep to Mandurah, the central suburbs, the Hills, Armadale to Serpentine and our newest region, Busselton, which opened in April 2019.
We not only provide a range of fee-free pet services, POOPS is continually working with organisations, companies, councils and other not-for-profits to provide other benefits to our clients, for example discounts for grooming, boarding facilities and vet costs.
In 2019, POOPS was delighted to announce Lisa Baker MLA as our new Patron. Lisa has represented the people of Maylands electorate as a Member of the WA Parliament for over a decade and the POOPS team are thrilled to have Lisa on board as her combined experience in animal protection and support for seniors makes her the perfect fit for POOPS.
